All my novels and short-stories raise issues that have impacted me either directly or as part of my nonprofit and education career — #MeToo, civil and women’s rights, our foster care system and what happens to our children, adoption, and second chances I personally experienced. As part of my career and spiritual life — homelessness and poverty. And both personally and via my work — racism and misogyny. My novels have a diverse cast of characters including multiracial, mixed race, differently abled, gay, and multigenerational. The stories also include themes around the toxicity of secrets and lies, the power of forgiveness and possibility of redemption. I’ve had four careers — stay at home mom, fundraiser and leader in colleges, international business owner/consultant/teacher and trainer, and now published author. One is never too old, too young, too anything. Too is a limiting word.
Karen believes in generosity and giving back. She hosts a weekly video podcast What Are You Reading? What Are You Writing? supporting fellow authors. She is on the board of directors of Easterseals Florida helping the differently abled, is an Elder in her church, volunteers for several professional organizations supporting nonprofits, and feeds the hungry and unhoused every week.
Native New Yorkers living in Florida, Karen and her husband, Robert, have two grown children and three grandsons.
